OWASSO – The Owasso Chamber of Commerce conducted drawings on Thursday for a yearly contest that is part of the Shop Small Owasso Passport Event.

Every year since 2014, the Owasso Chamber of Commerce together with participating businesses, designate one day of the year as “Small Business Saturday”.

A Small Business Saturday Passport

On Small business Saturday, local consumers can pick up a “passport” from participating businesses to collect stamps, which can be used to enter them in a contest for a variety of prizes! Some businesses require a purchase to collect stamps, others will give shoppers a stamp simply for visiting the store. When shoppers are done, they can drop their passport off at any of the participating businesses.

Each store puts together a prize with a value of at least $50 or more. After small business Saturday is complete, the Owasso Chamber holds drawings from the stamps collected for each individual store, and then the winner gets a prize! In addition, once they are done, they throw all the stamps together and hold a Grand Prize Drawing. The first-place winner gets $500, and the second-place winner gets $200!

The Shop Small program acts as an incentive to get consumers to shop locally and support small businesses, large national retailers do not participate. Owasso Chamber of Commerce President Gary Akin tells us: “At the end of the day on Small Business Saturday: people shop, they discover new shopping locations, and businesses get to see new faces. If businesses can see that the Chamber cares and we want to get more business in small businesses, that becomes another benefit of Chamber membership. This is a “win-win scenario” with the public, retailers, and the Chamber being able to do its job”.

As the Chamber held drawings last Thursday, a combined total value of $2469.00 in prizes were awarded from local businesses. The drawings were broadcast live on Facebook so the winners could be announced.
